Mitsotakis in Cairo for 7th Tripartite Meeting of Egypt - Greece - Cyprus

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will travel to Cairo, Egypt, on Monday to attend the 7th Tripartite Meeting of Egypt - Greece - Cyprus.

During his visit to Egypt, he will sign a tripartite programme for Greece-Cyprus-Egypt investment cooperation and bilateral Greece-Egypt and Cyprus-Egypt programmes respectively.

Amid a growing and multilevel crisis in the region, the prime minister will reportedly stress the need to respect international law, and especially the principle of good neighborliness, as a basis for developing relations in the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean.

In particular, he will underline that this tripartite institution, which is open to all states in the region whose foreign policy focus on respect for international law, is a model of cooperation with specific actions in the fields of investment, energy, environment, culture and youth, utilizing Greece's geostrategic position at the crossroads of three continents.

Mitsotakis will point out that a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, with the effective resumption of negotiations as soon as possible is necessary for peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. A solution based on UN decisions. A solution, of course, that cannot include occupation troops in Cyprus. An agreed solution of a bi-zonal bicommunal federation, with political equality, as clearly defined by UN decisions. A solution for the benefit of all the Cypriot people.

Finally, it will be emphasized that this institutionalized tripartite cooperation is a strategic option for promoting peace, security, stability and cooperation in the fragile Mediterranean region.

Much of the prime minister's talks in a trilateral and bilateral context will be devoted to dialogue on regional developments, including, among others, the situation in Syria, Libya and the Middle East peace process, as well as on international issues, such as the fight against international terrorism and illegal migration, the necessary coordination on security issues, but also on the cooperation of the three countries in promoting mutual positions in international organizations.

Mitsotakis will also have meetings with members of the Greek community in Cairo.
