Sakellaropoulou, Zaharieva's meeting focuses on excellent relations and efforts

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, referred to the excellent relations between Greece and Bulgaria, as well as the efforts to deal with the pandemic and the gradual opening of tourism by the two countries, during her meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Ekaterina Zaharieva, on Monday.

Sakellaropoulou also pointed out that the good neighbourly relations that must exist in the Balkan region are disrupted by a series of provocative Turkish actions, such as the issuance of NAVTEX in an area that also includes Greek maritime zones, as well as the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque. In fact, she noted that Greece expects a practical demonstration of solidarity from its partners in the EU and, of course, from its friend Bulgaria.

On her part, Zaharieva stressed that Greece and Bulgaria are a model of good neighbourliness and friendly relations in today's Europe. She also stressed how important Greeece is as a tourist destination for Bulgaria and, therefore, expressed hope that health restrictions will be eased soon, while she agreed with Sakellaropoulou that unilateral actions by Turkey do not contribute to maintaining calm in the region.

Finally, she reiterated the invitation of the President of Bulgaria to the President of the Hellenic Republic for an official visit to Bulgaria.
