Frost in the north and gale force winds in the Aegean on Wednesday
The lowest temperatures early on Wednesday fell many degrees below zero Celsius both at higher altitudes but also in low-lying areas of northern Greece.
The lowest temperatures recorded by the automated weather stations of the Athens National Observatory's meteo service (excluding mountain refuges and ski resorts) were -6.7C in Neos Kafkasos, -6.6C in Nevrokopi, -5.5C in Paranesti, Drama and -4.8C in Mesovouno, Kozani.
Gale force winds were blowing in the Aegean, with gusts reaching up to 111km/h around the island of Tinos, 108 km/h in Karystos on the island of Evia, 108 km/h on Mt Parnitha and 85 km/h on Mt Penteli, both mountains in the region of Attica.
