Karamanlis: First step taken for metro extension from Katehaki to Maroussi

The first step for the extension of the Metro from Katehaki to Maroussi has already been taken, Infrastructure and Transport Μinister Kostas Karamanlis said on Tuesday, in an online discussion on major infrastructure projects in northern Athens.

Karamanlis referred to the planned Line 4 of the Athens metro, which has finally "unblocked" and for which preliminary works will begin in 2021. He said the first step in the process will be to extend Line 4 from Veikou Park to Pefkakia, so that it joins up with Line 1, the ISAP electric railway.

He also announced that the topographic and geotechnical studies have been completed, meaning that the first step has been taken, for extending the Metro from Katehaki along Kifissias Avenue and passing through Philothei, Halandri, the Olympic Stadium in Maroussi and reaching Pefki. In fact, topographic studies began last month.

The second stage of the project has to do with advanced studies and find funding. Karamanlis estimated that the specific project will be able to be included in the next Multiannual Financial Framework, ie after 2027, and after the first part of Line 4 of the Metro has been completed.
