Citizen Protection Minister Chrisochoidis visits Attica general police headquarters

Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis visited the General Police Directorate of Attica (GADA) on Tuesday where, according to sources, he had a meeting with senior officers.

According to police sources, Chrisochoidis often carries out lightning visits to the police headquarters to check on the operation of police services but his presence on Tuesday was linked to the latest barrage of attacks and demonstrations of support for convicted terrorist and hunger-striker Dimitris Koufodinas.

During the meeting, they discussed the measures taken by the Hellenic Police to deal with attacks mainly on police targets, after the recent petrol bomb attack at Kaisariani police station, where two police motorcycles were damaged, and the attack on a patrol car in Zografou, where the perpetrators tried to set it on fire while the police officers were still inside, though they managed to escape safely.

According to citizen protection ministry officials, strict orders have been given to all police services and staff - which Chrisochoidis repeated on Tuesday - to show great composure so as not to create worse situations. At the same time, however, an order has been sent from the police headquarters to police services and especially police stations to be fully prepared to deal with attacks and especially to protect police officers, while a plan has been drawn up for surveillance and the deterrence of any attacks.
