Police detains 29 during Saturday rally by supporters of convicted terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas
Tensions erupted in central Athens on Saturday afternoon during an attempted rally by supporters of convicted terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas, the Police reported.
A group of approximately 200 people gathered at Syntagma Square at midday while police prevented them from stopping traffic in perimeter streets, was added.
Upon the use of tear gas, the protesters shifted to nearby streets and attempted to hold a march at Stadiou avenue. A water cannon was also deployed by the police when people gathered anew at nearby Kotzia square and Propylea.
Koufodinas is facing renal failure at Lamia Hospital, where he is being hospitalized for several weeks due to his hunger strike, in demand of his transfer to the Korydallos jail in the Piraeus area, from the Domokos jail in central Greece
Police detained a total of 29 individuals.
