Parliament approves Greece-Cyprus memorandum on restructuring fire-afflicted areas in Attica

A collaboration memorandum between Greece and Cyprus for a project relating to the reconstruction and upgrading of fire-affected areas in eastern Attica was approved in a plenary session at Parliament on Friday.

It was supported by New Democracy, Movement for Change (KINAL) and Greek Solution parties, and rejected by Syriza-Progressive Alliance, the Communist Party of Greece and MeRA25.

Participating in the proceedings, Deputy Minister of Environment & Energy Nikos Tagaras noted that the memorandum concerns a donation from the Republic of Cyprus, which, after consultation among the Greek government, Nicosia and local municipalities, will be used for the construction of a housing project in the Skoufeika area of Rafina, at an area spanning 1.6 hectares (16 stremmas), erecting 100 houses (each averaging of 80 sqm) over 8,000 square meters of land.

Several areas in north Attica suffered severe environmental and housing damages during the 2021 summer wildfires.
