FM Dendias to visit Japan on April 12-13
Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will pay an official visit to Japan on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12-13, the foreign ministry announced on Monday.
In the context of the close cooperation between Greece and Japan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit follows the First Round of Consultations of the Legal Services on the Law of the Sea (December 2021) and the Fourth Round of Political Consultations (March 2022) between the two countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the announcement said.
According to the ministry, during his stay in Tokyo, Dendias will exchange views with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoshimasa Hayashi, in the context of expanded talks between the two delegations (Wednesday, April 13, 2022).
The two ministers are expected to make joint statements to the press at approximately 07:40 Greek time, to be followed by a working lunch.
Talks between the foreign minister and his Japanese counterpart are expected to focus on further promoting bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, on EU-Japan relations, the situation in Ukraine following the Russian invasion as well as on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific region.
In addition, they are expected to cover the two countries’ shared commitment to International Law - including the Law of the Sea - and coordination within the United Nations, in view of the two countries' candidacies as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (the 2023 – 2024 term for Japan and the 2025 – 2026 term for Greece).
Dendias will also have a meeting on Wednesday with members of the Japan-Greece League of Friendship of the House of Representatives of Japan, including its chairman (and a former foreign minister), Taro Kono.
Finally, on the same day, Dendias will meet with the President and members of the Board of Directors of the Greek Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
