Gov't spokesman: Greece fully prepared to defend its sovereign rights against challenges
The government has been "following with calmness, objectivity, and decisiveness" Turkey's escalation of provocations recently, government spokesman Yiannis Economou told Skai TV on Saturday.
In an interview, Economou said that Greece has a clear and consistent policy, multilevel diplomacy with neighboring countries, partners, and allies, and a stronger National Defense. "Greece does not panic or compare itself to others, and nothing and nobody could harm our sovereignty and our sovereign rights," the spokesman said, adding that "we are here as a factor of peace and stability in the Aegean and the Southeast Mediterranean."
He underlined that "everyone knows Greece is right. It is not just International Law that stands on our side, it is our allies as well, expressed several times." Economou cited as examples the statements of support by the US State Department, the German chancellor, and the French president, as well as US President Joe Biden at Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' official visit to the United States. Greece is fully prepared to defend itself against any challenge to its national sovereignty and its sovereign rights, the spokesman stressed.
The government spokesman also rejected main opposition leader Alexis Tsipras' assertions about snap elections, saying that it's not the first time "his forecasts have been proven wrong."
