Androulakis: PM missed his opportunity to tell the truth about wiretapping in Parliament

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is "guilty for covering up the scandal" of phonetapping, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis said on Friday, following a motion of censure vote in Parliament.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is "guilty for covering up the scandal" of phonetapping, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis said on Friday, following a motion of censure vote in Parliament.

The motion, initiated by main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, failed to pass.

Responding to the speeches by both leaders earlier in the day, Androulakis charged Mitsotakis' New Democracy government that it has initiated "continuous attacks against the independent regulatory agency" (the Hellenic Authority for Communication, Security, and Privacy). The Pasok-Kinal leader also accused Syriza of "a loaded past undermining institutions during their Syriza-ANEL rule" and "organizing a shady surveillance network."

During his speech concluding the debate in Parliament on Friday, Androulakis said that Mitsotakis had "the last opportunity to tell the Greek people the truth shortly before national elections. Instead, he chose to keep silent, as it appears he does not have the political courage to face his very heavy responsibilities over the institutional aberration that has embarrassed Greece abroad."
