The framework of actions in the main pillars of the transport sector - road transport, urban mobility, rail transport, freight transport and air transport - was presented by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras, while speaking on Monday at a conference entitled "Transport engineers discuss and propose: Current situation and prospects."
With regard to road transport, the minister pointed out that the main concern is to upgrade the level of road safety. A period of public consultation on the new ratification framework for the Traffic Code has been completed. It includes a set of regulations that focus on the protection of human life, taking into account modern needs.
At the same time, he said, the construction of modern highways and many other road projects is continuing throughout Greece, as the quality of the road network is crucial for safety, social cohesion and commercial activity.
Regarding urban mobility, he stressed that the ministry promotes specific initiatives aimed at upgrading urban transport, sustainable urban mobility, accessibility, the introduction of innovative technologies and the strengthening of "green" transport.
