Missing teenager, 17, is found dead at Isthmus of Corinth area

A 17-year-old female was found dead in the sea at the Isthmus of Corinth area on Friday, following an alert and extensive searches by the Coast Guard.

According to the Coast Guard, the teenager was declared missing early the same day. A search by sea and land began immediately. Her body was found in the water at the Posidonia area of the Corinth Isthmus by an employee of a private company. A diver and officers of the Coast Guard recovered her body and took it to the Posidonia cove, from which it was transported by EKAV ambulance to the General Hospital of Corinth where the girl's death was confirmed.

The death is being investigated by the Isthmia Coast Guard division of the Corinth Port Authority while an autopsy has been ordered by the Coroner's Office of the Peloponnese to determine the exact cause of death.
