Body of teenager, found in Evros River

The body of a teenage boy approximately 14 years old has been found on the banks of the River Evros in the Didimotichos area, on Greece's northeastern border.

According to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) sources, the body was found on Sunday and may be that of an irregular migrant, while the teenager's death was caused by drowning.

The body is in an advanced state of decay, indicating that death occurred about three months ago, thus ruling out the possibility that the body may be one of the two Turkish children that were lost on the river some days ago, when the boat that they had taken with their parents capsized mid-stream.

The bodies of the mother and one of the two children in the boat have already been recovered by authorities in Turkey, while the father survived and remains in Greece as an irregular migrant.

A DNA sample from the body found on Sunday will be examined to check whether it can be identified as one of the irregular migrants that have already been reported as missing. The sources noted that a second woman and three children had gone missing on the river in the Sofikos area in April.
