Tsipras: The death of Zak Kostopoulos will not be forgotten

"The death of Zak Kostopoulos will not be forgotten, at least by those of us who remain committed to the struggle for a society where human life holds the highest value," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in a letter to the mother of the 33-year-old gay activist, who died in a violent incident last month.

Tsipras: The death of Zak Kostopoulos will not be forgotten

A few days ago, the mother of Kostopoulos had sent a letter to "Efimerida Ton Syntakton" newspaper addressed the prime minister.

The prime minister expressed his condolences and his gratitude to this woman for sharing her thoughts and feelings.

"What happened and led to the death of Zak is a nightmare," the prime minister said and explained: "not only because brutal violence has led to the loss of human life but also because it helped the emergence of social cannibalism that applauds taking the law into one's own hands and is not horrified by the sight of brutal violence exerted on those below, those that are weak, different or other."

In fact, the prime minister's letter also criticised a portion of the media for stoking this social cannibalism and once again seeking to replace justice once again, or even worse, offends "for the sake of TV ratings, a fellow citizen who lost his life in an inhuman way."

The prime minister expressed agreement with the mother's call for an in-depth investigation into all aspects of this tragic incident and to hold responsible "those who may have, through their actions or attitudes, caused or allowed the loss of Zak's life."
