Video Assistance Referree (VAR) to be ready for Greek Cup final in May, Rallis says
The video assistance referee (VAR) system is now at a very advanced stage and the technical evaluation of the system has been completed, general secretary for digital policy Stelios Rallis said on Wednesday, speaking to OPEN TV.
"I believe that in mid-January we will have the contract and we will be in position to be ready to use it at the Cup final in May. The VAR will be used in all football matches. It will cover 1,205 matches in total in the next five years. We are talking about all Superleague matches and Cup finals. Greece will be among the European countries where VAR will be applied from September 2019," he said.
"The total cost of the VAR will be approximately 15 million euros for 54 months. We are going to bring transparency and credibility to Greek football," said Rallis.
