Farmers to decide the future of their mobilisations on Sunday

Protesting farmers currently at the roadblocks sent a message to Agriculture Minister Stavros Arachovitis on Friday, following his invitation to begin dialogue.

Farmers to decide the future of their mobilisations on Sunday

In an announcement, the farmers affiliated with the Panhellenic Committee of Roadblocks said that both the minister and the government were not on their side nor acting their interests.

In response to their request for cheap diesel, they noted that the government and the minister had "offered 1.1 billion euros from the state budget for cheap fuel to shipowners, airline owners and the owners of major hotel groups, but not a single euro for farmers' diesel, which costs 1.40 euros/per litre."

The farmers accused the minister of lying about meeting their demands, noting that none of the issues discussed in their previous meeting was met and that this was the reason for their mobilisation.

Protesting farmers called on the rest of their colleagues to join in the mobilisations and noted that a nationwide meeting will be held on February 3 at Nikea (in the Larissa region) to decide whether to escalate their protest action.
