A draft bill on the process granting driving licenses was voted on Friday evening through majority vote by ruling New Democracy MPs.

Main opposition SYRIZA, KINAL and Greek Solution voted it down, while the Communist Party (KKE) and MeRA25 did not attend the voting process.

In closing arguments, ND deputy Yiannis Kefalogiannis defended the fast-tracking of the bill by saying that the new regulations had left over 100,000 drivers, mostly of professional-grade licenses, in limbo for a year, and that it prevented a rise in road tax based on pollutant emissions regulations that are scheduled to go into effect next week.

An amendment related to the National Information Agency was also voted on by roll-call vote, after a request by Syriza. A total of 220 deputies voted, with 150 ND deputies supporting it and 70 deputies of Syriza and Greek Solution rejecting it. KINAL, KKE and MeRA25 walked out before the vote began.
