Greece should not deploy forces to the Sahel without parliament approval, say SYRIZA MPs

The Greek government appears to have decided to deploy Greek armed forces to the Sahel region in Africa, three SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party MPs responsible for foreign policy and national defense said on Tuesday.

In their joint statement, George Katrougalos, Thodoris Dritsas and Giorgos Tsipras cited an interview by the national defense minister and noted that this deployment may have been decided even before the recent Greece-France strategic defense agreement. Such a dispatch, they pointed out, "is not about military advisers, we already have some there, this is about battle-ready military personnel."

The issue is too important and needs the approval of the Greek Parliament, they stressed.
