Tankers collide near Karystos; crews safe and well, no pollution
The crews of two tankers that collided slightly in the early hours of Thursday while sailing 10 nautical miles south of the town of Karystos are in good health, while neither ship is taking on water nor has any marine pollution been observed.
The ships are the Malaysia-flagged "Amelia" with a crew of 24 and the Malta-flagged "Tanab" with a 16-member crew, all foreign nationals. The "Tanab" was not carrying cargo, while the "Amelia" was carrying 30,000 metric tonnes of gas oil.
A coastguard vessel was sent to the scene to examine the two ships at close hand, while both ship's captains reported that they could move without assistance. The two tankers have been temporarily forbidden to sail until they receive a certificate of seaworthiness.
