The Greek parliament will have its lights turned off for one hour (8:30 pm to 9:30 pm) on Saturday as part of a global environmental event 'Earth Hour', which this year is dedicated to forest protection.

In a statement, parliament officials said that the event "is a symbolic act which reflects the common need to assume action against climate change and the destruction of the natural environment - a message that reminds us of the inestimable value of forests and the importance of protecting them."

Also noted was the importance of the public's awareness on fire prevention, particularly during the warm summer months.
