"Unfortunately, for New Democracy health is a commodity and this bill shows this," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance parliamentary group president Nikos Pappas said on Tuesday, during the debate in Parliament on a draft health ministry bill on "Reforming the institution of the Personal Doctor - Formation of University Health Centres and other statutes".

"If anything was shown through the course of multiple crises, an aspect of which was also the pandemic crisis, it was that, in health, the private sector cannot take the needs of society upon its shoulders. It was confirmed that it cannot cope with a situation that demands higher investments, specialisation and reliability. Only the state, through strong public interventions, can play a catalytic and redemptive role," he said.
