Theodorikakos: We protect consumers; stricter inspections as of March 17
Theodorikakos also noted that stricter inspections will be carried out as of March 17.
"At the Ministry of Development, we are doing everything we can to stop the increase in prices, to balance them out and, when possible, to help them fall. Our efforts have brought results. Food inflation has been around zero for the last four months. We have achieved this by putting pressure on the market, conducting inspections and increasing the fines that are normally paid sixfold," Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said on Monday in an interview with SKAI TV.
Theodorikakos added that "now the emphasis is on reforming the market to protect consumers from misleading discounts. For a discount or offer to be real and reliable, the actual selling price must be cheaper than the cheapest price in the last thirty days. Anything else is false and misleading and will be punished," noted the Minister of Development.
"We want more real offers, real discounts and when this does not happen, the fines will be up to 3 million euros," he underlined.
Theodorikakos also noted that stricter inspections will be carried out as of March 17.
