A total of 27 foreign nationals rescued in the sea region of Ierapetra

Twenty-seven people were transferred to Kali Limenes after being spotted in the early hours of Saturday aboard a small boat 50 nautical miles southwest of Ierapetra.

They were detected by a container ship sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, and the operation also involved the participation of an unmanned vessel from the Frontex force.

The 27 foreign nationals are expected to be transferred within the next few hours to a temporary accommodation facility in Heraklion.
