Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis in an interview with ERT on Wednesday said that "with the reduction of direct taxes, the government ensures that the money leaving state coffers will go into citizens' pockets. It is an approach of fairness and common sense."

"The reduction of direct taxes will lead to an increase in disposable income. This is doubly useful due to the accumulated high cost of living in recent years, not only in Greece but also in other European countries." And, "it is time to reduce taxes for the middle class," he added, reiterating that the prime minister’s announcements in Thessaloniki will have as their main message tax reform for employees and families.

Beyond taxation, they will also include commitments already announced concerning uniformed personnel, as well as follow-ups to measures for pensioners and renters that were unveiled in April. "We are looking at society as a whole and doing as much as we can, relying on the growth of the economy—which is significantly above the EU average—and on the results from curbing tax evasion," he stressed.
