PM Mitsotakis on Bloomberg: Our goal in the 2027 elections is to win an absolute majority

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview with Bloomberg, set as a priority the creation of a common European funding mechanism for defence. He assessed that the situation in Europe has changed, noting that some countries that were traditionally opposed have now changed their minds. He expressed confidence that Germany would eventually agree as well.

On the economy, Mitsotakis reiterated that Greece continues on a path of fiscal discipline. He underlined that Greece has achieved significant primary surpluses and said that it is likely there will be a real surplus this year as well. He stressed that growth is yielding tangible benefits, noting that 500,000 new jobs have been created since he became Prime Minister. He also said the middle class will see real wage increases thanks to tax cuts coming into effect on January 1, 2026.

Referring to the general situation in the Eurozone, he called on governments to take tough decisions to stabilise public finances. Regarding France, he said he hoped the political situation would stabilise, underlining the importance of stability in major European economies for Greece.

He also described Greece’s future as optimistic, noting that growth must focus on investment, innovation, exports, and high-value jobs. His goal, he said, remains sustained wage growth.

As for the 2027 elections, he said he is seeking absolute majority and noted that the best days are ahead of us.
