The tremor was shallow, at a depth of 3 kilometres, according to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Seismological Station.
A second, weaker tremor of 2.8 magnitude followed at 18:29, centred 4 kilometres east-northeast of Nea Santa, Kilkis. Also shallow at 3 kilometres, this quake was felt as far away as Thessaloniki despite its modest size. No damage or injuries have been reported.
