Thessaloniki mayor Boutaris among World Mayor 2014 finalists
The "City Mayors" foundation included Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris in the shortlist of 26 candidates for 2014 World Mayor prize.
Candidates claiming the title include among others the mayors of Calgary (Canada), Houston (USA), Bristol and Liverpool (Britain), Ghent (Belgium), Bordeaux (France), Seoul (South Korea), Izmir (Turkey) and Sydney (Australia). A public voting on the website www.Worldmayor.com is already underway.
The "City Mayors" foundation was founded in 2003 aiming at promoting, encouraging and facilitating good local government. Among the mayors who have been awarded the World Mayor prize are the mayors of Bilbao (2012), the City of Mexico (2010), Cape Town (2008), Melbourne (2006), Dora Bakoyannis, mayor of Athens in 2005 and the (current Prime Minister of Albania) Edi Rama as mayor of Tirana in 2004.
