Obama: We sent a clear message to the Islamic State

The coalition against the organization of the Islamic State sent a "clear message" to the jihadists, said President Barack Obama, from New York.

Obama: We sent a clear message to the Islamic State

“We were joined in this action by our friends and partners -- Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, and Qatar. America is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with these nations on behalf of our common security”, said President Obama after meeting with the officials of the above countries.

According to the President of the US, “US will continue building support for the coalition that is confronting this serious threat to our peace and security. The overall effort will take time. There will be challenges ahead. But we're going to do what’s necessary to take the fight to this terrorist group, for the security of the country and the region and for the entire world.”

As said an American diplomat, President Obama spoke of "the threat (posed by the Islamic State) which brings us all together." All Arab countries "agreed that there are times that they need to take a stand and in particular to take a leading position in the region," said a State Department official.

Yesterday's air strikes by the United States and its Arab allies were the first against the areas of the Islamic state in Syria. The involvement of the Arab states was a result of the tour of American Foreign Minister John Kerry, a few days ago, in many Arab countries, where the head of American diplomacy succeeded to receive a positive response from Arab countries for their participation in aircraft missions against the extreme Sunni organization of the Islamic State.

Pentagon: “This is just the beginning”

The Pentagon announced that the yesterday’s (23/9) American and Arabic blows against targets of ISIS in Syria is “Only the beginning of a joint effort to weaken the extremists and the Islamic State”.

"I can tell you that last night's strikes were only the beginning," said Rear Admiral John Kirby, a U.S. Defense Department spokesman. He called the overnight attacks "very successful" but gave few other details.

Washington also said U.S. forces had acted alone to launch eight strikes in northeastern Syria on what they called the Khorasan group. According to the Pentagon, were killed team members of Khorasan, consisting of former members of al Qaeda, which was in "the final stages" of preparing an attack against a target in Europe or the USA.

The Pentagon had been monitoring the Khorasan group for "some time" before deciding whether to launch air strikes along with the air strikes against ISIS.

In the air strikes in Syria, were used for the first time the invisible to radar bombers F-22, said Meivil while Kirby noted that American forces dropped more than 160 bombs and missiles, most of which were precision weapons.

Washington has not at the moment evidence that civilians were killed by the blows, concluded Kirby.
