Skopje: The procedures for changing signs, passports underway

The Prespes Agreement came into force on Tuesday evening and the country was renamed - officially.

The new name is already used in official government and ministries websites, and Foreign Minister Nikolay Dimitrov's title in his social media profile has changed.

At the same time, the process of changing signposts and passports has begun.

On Wednesday, at 14:00 (Athens time), a sign with the new name of the country, will be placed in the largest border crossing of the country, in Gevgelija (opposite the customs of the Evzonoi).

The coordinating interministerial committee of Skopje, set up by the government in order to meet the country's commitments under the Prespes Agreement, announced that the country's customs authorities must within three days place stickers on the border crossing signs and two airports with the new name of the country.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have to replace the sings at the ministry as well as the seals and the stamps within two weeks, and at the diplomatic and consular representations abroad within three weeks.

The interior ministry will have to start issuing new vehicle registration plates within four months. Meanwhile, the same ministry will provide stickers with the inscription "NMK" for vehicle registration plates.

Furthermore, according to the decisions of the interministerial committee, the issuance of new passports will start until the end of 2019. Meanwhile, upon leaving or entering the country, there will be a stamp on existing travel documents and those issued during the transitional period stating that the travel documents belong to the citizens of it.

Moreover:

* Within six months, statutes, public buildings and infrastructures will have to be examined and revised and, as far as ancient Greek history and culture are concerned, as part of Greece's historical heritage, the necessary corrective measures and actions are to be taken.

* Within six months, the symbol of the former state flag of the country (the Sun of Vergina) should be removed from any public space and its public use should cease, with the exception of archaeological sites.
