Tsipras-Zaev's meeting a new era to the relations of the two countries
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' visit to Skopje on Tuesday inaugurates a new era in relations between Greece and Skopje, following the Prespes Agreement.
This is the first visit by a Greek prime minister to the neighbouring country, a visit he described as "historic".
The visit marks a new beginning in diplomatic, economic, military and energy relations between the two countries, with the aim of promoting them to strategic relations. In this context, according to diplomatic sources, significant opportunities will arise for cooperation and joint development following the Prespes Agreement. "This visit is another step towards consolidating Greece's leading role in Southeastern Europe as a pillar of peace, stability and growth," they stressed.
Two months after the implementation of the Prespes Agreement, the meeting of the 1st Supreme Cooperation Council (ACS) between Greece and Skopje, under the prime ministers of the two countries, Alexis Tsipras and Zoran Zaev, is taking place on Tuesday in Skopje.
The prime minister and the 10-member ministerial delegation accompanying him will arrive at Skopje's airport at 10.30. They will be taken to the government mansion where an official reception will take place, in accordance with the protocol. Afterwards, Tsipras and Zaev will have a private meeting. Other meetings among ministers will take place at the same time.
Tsipras will also be accompanied by a business delegation with over 140 executives and representatives from more than 100 large and medium-sized businesses. Among the companies are Mytilineos Group, Intracom, Motor Oil, Prometheus Gas, GEK Terna, Hellenic Petroleum, Aktor, Apivita, PPC, DESFA, Τitan, Viohalco, Sidenor S.A, Alpha Digital, Alumil S.A., Malamatinas & Son S.A. and Ohonos Snack S.A.
During bilateral contacts, agreements will be signed.
Specifically:
- An action plan to deepen and strengthen cooperation between the two parties - including a broad list of areas of cooperation.
- A Defence Cooperation Agreement between the Greek Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Defence of Skopje.
- An agreement on the establishment of a border crossing between the two countries
- A memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat of European Affairs of the Government of Skopje to accelerate the process of accession of Skopje to the European Union.
- A Memorandum of Cooperation of the Ministries of Transport.
- A Memorandum of Understanding for the Development of the Road and Rail Connection Thessaloniki-Skopje-Tabanovce.
