More wet weather forecast until Tuesday

A new bout of bad weather is forecast in Greece starting on Sunday afternoon and lasting until Tuesday, with strong rainfall expected in some areas on Monday, according to the National Observatory of Athens weather service meteo.

Rain is expected in the Ionian Sea and western mainland Greece on Sunday, gradually spreading across the country to Crete, Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean through the night.

Rain and storms are expected in all parts of Greece on Monday morning, with the weather front gradually moving eastward until the phenomena are restricted mainly to the eastern Aegean by Tuesday afternoon. The rain is predicted to be strongest in the west and in the region of Thrace.

In Thessaloniki, the worst weather is expected after Monday afternoon, while in Attica it is forecast to begin at midnight on Sunday and last until the early afternoon.

Winds will blow from mainly southerly directions, switching to westerly in the Ionian Sea on Monday and reaching up to 7-8 Beaufort before subsiding to about 4-5 Beaufort on Tuesday. Temperatures are forecast to rise slightly on Monday, ranging from 10C-19C in northern Greece, 15C-20C in western parts of the country, 13C to 21C on the eastern mainland and Evia, and between 16C and 23 C on the Aegean islands.

Rainy weather is forecast in Attica on Monday, with temperatures from 14C to 21C. Same in Thessaloniki, with temperatures between 11C and 20C.
