The main opposition leader made the statements after meeting with members of the PPC staff union (GENOP-DEI) at the party's headquarters in Koumoundourou Square.

"It's one thing to say that a large public-sector company operating under private-sector criteria should be somewhat flexible and be able to hire, and quite another preparing a mass influx of new hires under dire terms and without going through ASEP," he said, referring to the central authority for testing and hiring.

Tsipras blamed the union representatives and the media for focusing on the permanence in job factor, because it gave the public the message that they were more concerned about holding on to their positions. They should focus instead on the fact that these planned hirings, with a basic salary of 650 euros per month, were going to be carried out as political favors.

"This is the first time this is being done on such a large scale at a company of the greater public sector, and this is what you should focus on," he stressed.
