The secretary of the Central Committee of main opposition SYRIZA, Panos Skourletis, spοke about "devaluation of labour" and "weakening of workers" by the government, in a statement on the Greek participation in the European program SURE for the support of the labour market.

"The government appeared satisfied that EU approved the granting to Greece, in the form of a 2.7 billion euro loan on favourable terms, through the SURE program," Skourletis noted. He added that "apart from the fact that the amount is objectively insufficient, 'Efimerida Ton Syntakton' newspaper in an article on Wednesday showed that Portugal, with unemployment of 5.6 pct in July compared to 17 pct in our country, is expected to be financed with 5.9 billion euros, more than double the amount for Greece."

He explained that "Portugal is implementing a package of 17 actions to support labour and workers at a correspondingly higher cost" and "respectively, Italy is implementing a program of 13 actions."

"Since the implementation of the special measures which began in March, the Greek state appears to be implementing 4 measures, spending 1.6 billion euros for 1.8 million employees and the self-employed, with an average of 900 euros per beneficiary.

"Greece will get less than Portugal, because it has done less to support work," he said.
