Chancellor Angela Merkel arrives in Athens for last official visit to Greece

German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Athens shortly before 20:00 on Thursday evening following an invitation by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Merkel is visiting Greece for the last time before she steps down as chancellor, and will be attending a private dinner with PM Mitsotakis this evening.

The German leader will begin her official visit with an address to young people at the Goethe Institute at 09:00 on Friday. She will then meet with Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou at the Presidential Mansion at 10:15, and meet with Mitsotakis at Maximos Mansion at 10:50, before making joint statements to the press.

Greek police has introduced traffic restrictions for the visit for the afternoon and evening of Thursday (Oct. 28) and the morning hours until midday on Friday, diverting traffic.
