"Ιllegal actions have never been detected οn the part of Greece," the Ministry of Migration and Asylum replied on Monday to a report by UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants, Felipe Gonzalez Morales, entitled "Human rights violations in international law" which refers to "illegal pushbacks to the Greek land and sea borders".

Sources from the Migration and Asylum Ministry responded that the report "is not based on a primary investigation, but reproduces past findings of a UNHCR report, foreign media reports, as well as suggestions from other NGOs, which are already being thoroughly examined by the the National Transparency Authority."

The same sources underlined that "while checking corresponding complaints, so far, no illegal actions have been detected on the part of Greece during the guarding of its borders".

They also noted that "Greece is fully aware of its humanitarian duty. It now provides safe haven for tens of thousands of asylum seekers, those displaced from Ukraine, and voluntarily to vulnerable Afghans. The Hellenic Coast Guard and the Greek Police rescue every day people whose lives are in danger at the sea and land borders."

They concluded that Greece "will continue to guard its borders effectively and with full adherence to human rights and international law."
