Greek Port Authority stops dinghy with 16 migrants off Rhodes

An inflatable dinghy with irregular migrants was stopped by a patrolling vessel of the Greek Port Authority at the sea north of Rhodes island on Wednesday.

The pilot of the dinghy initially refused to stop after warnings by the Port Authority, and tried to evade them through dangerous maneuvers. The man stopped the vessel after warning shots were fired. Greek officials found 16 people on board - 10 men, 5 women, and 1 girl - and arrested the 29-year-old foreign national driving the boat.

All were transported to the port of Rhodes.
