Stournaras: Greece examines return to markets

Greece examines the possibility to return to markets as the international financial community has regained its confidence to Greece and its economy, with Greek bond spreads falling, Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, after a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to discuss the results of a Eurogoup and Ecofin meetings in Athens, Stournaras said developments were very positive and stressed that a personal contact between the premier and Eurogroup’s president, the German Finance minister and all other Eurogroup finance ministers played a very important role, as the Greek government has established a personal contact with Eurozone officials according to ANA-MPA

The Greek finance minister said Athens was examining the possibility of exiting to markets but the date of bond issue will depend on developments. “The positive thing is the Greece has not only changed page, or chapter. It has changed book,” he said.

Commenting on a political clash with opposition parties over the Baltakos issue, Stournaras said he was not concerned at all for the possibility that this development could affect the positive view of the economy. “We have to look at the big picture. The big picture is significant for Greece today,” he noted.
