Not a single euro in state funds from the levy of ship-owners
Rather amusing than justificatory, are the reasons which the Ministry of Finance is adducing to justify the fact that five months after the enactment of the provision has not yet progressed to the signing of the necessary decrees and issuing circulars to start payment of the special contribution of Greek ship-owners.
It is known that the ship-owners had strongly protested, since the government decided to proceed to mandatory status on the voluntary contribution agreed with the government last summer. This provision, which was enacted in December 2013 and remains so far on paper, states that the provision of the maritime community to address the country's financial crisis, it is for three years (2014, 2015 and 2016) and is calculated based on ships operated each shipping company or managed by any management company, respectively.
So many Greek ship-owners, invoking their constitutional "tax free" rights, refuse to pay the special levy, once became mandatory, while some are threatening to take the ships and their shipping companies away from Greece.
They even proclaimed themselves in "standby" until the issue solved, as they addressed to the Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to meet their request.
In this context, the justifications of the Ministry of Finance on the 'technical difficulties' raised suspicions that the government "embrace" ship-owners, at least until the elections, as outlined in the "Journal of Editors'", newspaper. The ministry, rushed to answer about the Publish by issuing the following statement:
"Concerning current publications on the economic benefit of the maritime community to tackle the economic crisis, the Treasury states:
It would be absurd for the government to not want to recover the economic benefit of the maritime community to tackle the economic crisis, especially since the owners themselves have decided to voluntarily contribute to the strengthening of the state in difficult economic times our country.
The reason why these provisions have not yet been applied in their entirety, is that encountered technical difficulties, especially in integration of relevant computer applications, which are treated rapidly.
In any case, the economic benefit of the maritime community will be collected as soon as possible and as soon as the above technical difficulties resolved".
Impressive, however, is the fact that when it comes to collecting taxes and special contributions by employees or retirees, procedures completed rapidly.
"I do not pay" contributions to pension funds, "I do not pay" special contribution, "I do not pay" taxes like the rest of the Greeks, and the government and ship-owners want to convince us otherwise, that they "all" contribute in addressing the crisis...
