Greece among western Mediterranean countries at Madrid meeting on Libya
Greece is among countries attending a meeting of Western Mediterranean nations in Madrid on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Libya. Others include Cyprus, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania, Chad and Sudan.
Also invited are representatives of the Arab League, the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Union and the United Nations.
The aim of the meeting is to assess the impact of the Libyan conflict on the region, in terms of both security and migration, and in relation to the prospects for economic recovery. The first such meeting was held in Libya in March 2012 and followed by a second meeting in Rabat, Morocco in November 2013.
International conferences on Libya were held in Paris in February 2013 and in March 2014, and in Algiers last May.
