The Fire Brigade was called to a business on fire in July 2010 located on the ground floor of an apartment building. The three firemen entered the first-floor apartment of the woman and thought she had died, losing precious time in getting her out. The fire also claimed the life of the business owner, Dimitris Kassavetis.

The Iraklio Misdemeanours Court prosecutor had proposed the three be found innocent.
