The "Henry Dunant" Hospital and the insurance clearances
Although, by having debts of hundreds of millions, the hospital which was given almost ... for free to Piraeus Bank, was taking insurance clearances by the State without of course paying its creditors
Behind the protectionist regime provided by the government of Samaras in "Henry Dunant" Hospital, it seems that were many which enjoyed it.
Either by expediency or by inability to find a definitive solution, the fully indebted "Henry Dunant" Hospital, was operating through successive legislative acts and amendments, by which the hospital was provided tax and insurance clearances.
Through this process of questionable constitutionality, the "Henry Dunant" Hospital continued his cooperation with public institutions.
A typical example is EOPYY. "The Henry Dunant is necessary to have an insurance clearance - like all Private Groups - to can then compensate the insured," says in onmed.gr, a member of the Board of EOPYY, John Vafeiadis. "This is of direct interest of the Agency and at least made sure for this, all Ministers of Health in recent years," he adds.
"Henry Dunant" was taking public money, which comes from contributions of the insured, e.g. EOPYY, and choose where to spent it. In the best case, from time to time, was paying the employees. The majority of its creditors remained uncovered, with the exception perhaps of Piraeus Bank, which concluded (in a first phase) an agreement for the sale of movable property of the hospital. At the same time, the orders for payment issued to other creditors and suppliers, remained unexecuted.
Regarding the acquisition of all assets, movable, real estate and intangible assets of "Henry Dunant" Hospital from HEMITHEA SA, which reportedly is a company of interest of Piraeus Bank group, Mr. Vafeiadis stresses that 'as EOPYY we do not have an opinion neither can we take a stance", reiterating that what matters to the Agency is Dunant to have an insurance clearance.
The member of the Board of EOPYY also says that, unfortunately, "Henry Dunant" today looks nothing like it looked in the past, as the hospital often semi-operates, presenting an image of abandonment. This is demonstrated by the continuing reduce of hospital stays. For example, the medical expenses now for IKA are 800,000 per month; in the past this amount was 2 million Euros.
The fact, that with EOPYY's money, and therefore with the money of the insured, the administration of the "Henry Dunant" choose whom they will pay off, may not directly employ the Agency.
However, it could have requested investigation or data presentation to the House, on where the money of the insured goes, regarding the scandalous case Dunant.
As shown, however, EOPYY continued to pay without bringing objections to this semi-legal, semi-illegal status.
