Athens court begins investigation into death of Greek national in Albania
The Athens district court will investigate the death of a Greek national who died on Sunday in the village of Bularat in an incident with Albanian police, according to information on Tuesday.
Konstantinos Katsifas was killed after allegedly opening fire with a Kalashnikov rifle on a vehicle of the Albanian police who tried to arrest him for undisclosed reasons.
The investigation by the Greek court began after Katsifas' sister appeared at the Ioannina district court to file a suit. As the case relates to a crime committed against a Greek national abroad, the file was sent to the Athens courts.
The Greek Police and Foreign Ministry have contacted their Albanian counterparts for clarification on the incident, while parties and the government spokesman have condemned Katsifas' killing and called for an investigation into the incident.
