"Such a state can't continue. The country's stance cannot be decided either by adopting the stance of a passive observer nor by extreme right-wing voices," said Katrougalos.

SYRIZA deputy responsible for foreign policy issues George Katrougalos, in an announcement on Monday, asked that the National Council for Foreign Policy should be immediately convened to agree on a comprehensive strategy framework for defending Greece's national interests. He also accused the government of adopting a policy of appeasement toward Turkey.

In his announcement, Katrougalos said that the government was handling the crucial foreign policy issues, especially the escalating Turkish provocations, without a direction or strategy.

"Such a state can't continue. The country's stance cannot be decided either by adopting the stance of a passive observer nor by extreme right-wing voices," said Katrougalos.

"The only way out is the return to the active foreign policy drawn up and adopted by the SYRIZA government, which simultaneously promoted a positive agenda for dialogue but also an active response to the violations of the international law, that included European Union sanctions for the first time," Katrougalos concluded.
