Greece, Italy, EU coordinate to arrest human traffickers in two countries

Six individuals were arrested in Greece and five in Italy, while authorities confiscated a lot of fake documents, two cars used for transfers of migrants to the mainland in Greece, and a motorboat, the latter seized by the Corfu port authorities.

Coordinated by Eurojust, the EU's new agency for criminal prosecution, the sweep in Greece and Italy involved the Greek Coast Guard and the Aliens division of the Greek police, the port authorities of Igoumenitsa and Corfu, Guardia di Finanza in Italy and the EU's Europol. The team working on the case during the last few months also included the Greek office of Eurojust, representatives of several divisions of the Athens judicial authorities, and related authorities in Italy.
