Eurogroup: Greece has made significant progress in reforms

The President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe spoke of "good progress" on the part of Greece during the press conference after the end of the teleconference late on Monday.

At the same time, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni noted that the 9th Enhanced Surveillance Report concluded that Greece has made significant progress in implementing a number of reform commitments, although the pace of reforms has slowed down due to the pandemic.

Greece, he clarified, has made progress mainly in the fields of education, corporate governance, privatisation and energy policy.

According to Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, the 9th Enhanced Surveillance Report once again applauded the government's rapid and effective response to the pandemic and its economic impact.

"Efficiency that is reflected in the recent data, which prove that despite the strong shocks the Greek economy withstood in 2020 and jobs and business viability were protected, as much as possible. In addition, the progress was praised - despite the adverse conditions - in a series of reforms and structural changes, and the prospects of significant recovery were highlighted, through the optimal utilisation of the Recovery Fund resources, based on the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan," the minister pointed out.
