Hatzidakis: Meeting with farmers representatives in the afternoon

“I do not dispute that the agricultural sector has problems, just as the mechanism for paying subsidies still has problems. Nevertheless, this year the agricultural sector will receive 600 million euros more than last year, and we are open to discussing with farmers, within the limits of reason and the capabilities of the budget,” emphasised Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis in an interview on SKAI radio on Thursday.

Hatzidakis announced that at 17:00 on Thursday, together with Rural Development and Food Minister Kostas Tsiaras, he will meet with representatives of the farmers from Crete, a meeting in which the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, will also participate. A meeting between Tsiaras and representatives of the cooperatives will follow as well. “We are here — if they want to coordinate among themselves and all come together — to put their demands on record and so we can examine them, one by one,” he added.
