SYRIZA spokesman Skourletis on the election law; post-election alliances
Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) spokesman Panos Skourletis on Tuesday said that his party would vote in favour of an election law abolishing the 50-seat bonus received by the political party with the most votes in the general elections.
The SYRIZA spokesman underlined that his party would vote in favour if the government tabled a law abolishing the 50-seat bonus and soon after it resigned, leading the country to the polls.
Speaking on SKAI in response to reports that government vice-president and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos has raised the election law issue, Skourletis said "if they want to link the abolition of the bonus with immediate elections, they should try it," adding that his party is in favour of proportional representation.
Skourletis also cited an earlier statement by SYRIZA parliamentary group secretary Nikos Voutsis, who said that the government will not dare to change the election law because this would be an admission of defeat.
Referring to the presence of independent MPs during SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras' address in TIF, he said that the party is open to everybody who views its alternative proposal in a positive way, while as regards a post-election cooperation with the Independent Greeks (ANEL) party, he said that this is different, noting that it is up to the people to decide.
On the measures announced by Tsipras in TIF, he said that they are independent of the course of the negotiation.
