Woman alleged to have woken up after her burial
Thessaloniki police are investigating the case of a woman alleged to have been buried alive in Perea cemetery in Thessaloniki.
According to the relatives' allegations, the woman woke up from a coma but died from asphyxia in her coffin shortly after her burial.
Police certified that the 45 year-old woman had been hospitalised at a private medical center where, according to the doctors treating her, she died. Her relatives received the body and later on the day she was buried.
A group of minors playing outside the cemetery and local residents heard a woman calling for help from the depths of the Earth. They called the police and the exhumation procedure started immediately, but unfortunately it was too late.
According to first estimations, the 45-year-old woman woke up from the coma but died from asphyxiation in the coffin.
Thessaloniki prosecution was informed of the case while the victim's relatives accuse the doctors of the medical center and are expected to file lawsuits against all responsible parties.
