Energy Minister Maniatis and German counterpart discuss hydrocarbons,energy-fund in Athens
Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis met on Friday evening with German Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel in Athens, to discuss developments in the quest for hydrocarbons, setting up a fund for the energy upgrade of buildings and the crisis in Ukraine.
Gabriel proposed setting a fund that would provide capital to create energy-efficient buildings and would be supervised by the Institution for Growth (IfG), the umbrella fund that provides liquidity to small and medium-sized businesses.
Maniatis also invited German energy companies to participate in the upcoming tender for concessions to explore the existence of possible oil and gas reserves in the Ionian Sea and south of the island of Crete.
The two ministers also discussed the Ukraine crisis as well as the Greek proposal for setting up a solidarity mechanism for natural gas, which will be put forward in the next meeting of EU ministers.
