Large wildfire burning olive trees in Mytilene
A large wildfire is burning olive trees and forestland in the region between Geras and Plomari in Mytilene since Thursday afternoon was deemed as “very difficult” by fire department officials, due to the strong winds fanning the flames.
The fire has spread in three separate fronts and is heading towards Karionas.
Two firefighting planes and a Chinook helicopter are throwing water over the blaze and more forces are expected from Athens and Thessaloniki.
